A Texas man was sentenced to prison after agreeing to a plea deal in connection with the death of his girlfriend, according to officials.

DeAndre Shermail Wright pleaded guilty to murder in exchange for a 50-year prison sentence on Jan. 13, according to a Feb. 4 news release from the Polk County District Attorney’s Office.

Attorney information for Wright was not available.

On May 5, 25-year-old Jasmine Muldoon was reported missing. The next day, her body was found in a wooded area north of Livingston, according to a May 6 Facebook post by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Prosecutors said Muldoon died from a stab wound due to a “tumultuous relationship with Wright.”

Muldoon’s family told news outlets that she was experiencing domestic violence at the hands of Wright.

“When she was allowed to come over here, she’d be covered in bruises. It was a very abusive violent relationship that we all tried to get her away from,” Muldoon’s mother, Dewana Bowman, told KHOU days after her body was found.

Muldoon had five children and was described as “a beloved mother, sister, and friend,” a GoFundMe page said.

“Jasmine was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her, always bringing warmth and kindness to her community,” the GoFundMe page said.

Livingston is about a 75-mile drive northeast of Houston.
