Daughter calls 911 after her mom falls during mountainous hike, Arizona rescuers say
A daughter had to call 911 after her 67-year-old mom fell during a mountainous hike in Arizona, rescuers said.
Rescue teams responded Tuesday, Jan. 21, to Lizard Peak Trail in SARA Park, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue said in a Facebook post.
The outdoor recreation area is in Lake Havasu City, which is near the Arizona-California border.
The two were on the trail when the mom slipped, injuring her leg and wrist, rescuers said.
Due to her injuries, the woman couldn’t make it to the trailhead with her daughter and needed help.
Medics and firefighters responded and met the two on the trail, rescuers said.
A helicopter was then used to airlift her from the area in a litter, rescuers said.
She was taken to the Havasu Regional Medical Center.
The Blue Trail and Lizard Peak Loop is a 3.6-mile loop with an elevation gain of 839 feet. It’s described as a moderately challenging trek by AllTrails.
“A steep switch back climb to the top. A good little workout and the views on the way up make you stop and soak it in every so often,” according to the trail site.
The area is mountainous and rugged.
