Man fatally shoots two brothers during child custody dispute, California officials say
A man accused of killing two brothers during a child custody dispute has been charged, California prosecutors say.
Tommy Ramsey, 33, is facing two counts of murder stemming from the Oakland shootings, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said in a Jan. 23 news release.
During a dispute with his child’s mother in late December, Ramsey shot and killed Jason Markell Wills and Nathanuel Jamar Wills, prosecutors said.
“This is another tragic example of the irreversible and deadly consequences of someone using a gun to settle a dispute,” Chief Assistant District Attorney Royl Roberts said in the release. “No family should have to endure the heartbreak of losing a loved one to gun violence in our community.”
Each murder charge also includes “special allegations” that Ramsey used a firearm with the intent to cause great bodily injury, prosecutors said.
If convicted as charged, Ramsey could face up to 130 years-to-life plus eight months in prison, according to prosecutors.
Ramsey is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 27, prosecutors said.
