Woman in Amazon jacket trails delivery driver into building, takes packages, DC cops say
A woman carrying two small packages and wearing an Amazon-branded jacket followed a delivery driver into a building, then stole several packages after he left, security video shows.
The incident happened at about 3 p.m. Jan. 10 at a co-op building in Washington, D.C., according to a Metro Police Department report shared with McClatchy News.
Residents told police they received notifications that their packages were delivered but never got their orders, according to the report.
Security footage from the building’s lobby, shared with WDVM, shows the woman speaking to the delivery driver, then waiting until he leaves to open the door for another man.
Then, the duo haul the packages into a car parked outside and take off, the video shows.
Austin Stowe, a spokesperson for Amazon, told McClatchy News the company is investigating the incident and will back the police department.
“Based on our initial review, we don’t believe the individual wearing a branded coat in this video delivers on behalf of Amazon,” Stowe said in the Jan. 15 email.
According to the police report, seven packages — worth more than $300 in total, including a $200 snow blower — were taken from the building.
Amazon replaced each of the items, a resident told WDVM.
