2-year-old boy found locked inside cage at Kentucky home, police say. 5 charged
Five people were arrested after police say they found a child in a Kentucky home locked inside a cage.
A detective following up on a tip “from the community” visited a Carrollton residence Nov. 4 when he discovered a toddler “being held in a caged area,” according to a news release from the Carrollton Police Department.
Officers reported the boy had no clothes on and was “locked behind a wooden and metal enclosure that was secured with a padlock.”
According to a criminal complaint, the 2-year-old boy was kept in a room covered in urine and feces.
Two children were removed from the home following the preliminary investigation, police said.
Five adults were arrested on charges of criminal abuse and wanton endangerment, including two women from Carrollton, ages 52 and 71, two men from Carrollton, ages 29 and 72, and one 28-year-old Ghent woman who is facing additional charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, according to police.
McClatchy News is not naming the adults to protect the identities of the children. Police did not specify how any of the adults were related to the toddler.
Carrollton is about a 50-mile drive northeast from Louisville.
