An Ohio woman has pleaded guilty after officials say she intentionally shot her 6-month-old granddaughter in the head.

Mia Harris faced multiple charges, but in exchange for pleading guilty to one count of felonious assault, the other charges were dismissed, according to the Sept. 17 plea agreement filed in a Butler County court. Her sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 29.

Butler County deputies responded to a home in Liberty Township for reports of an infant who was shot, according to a Dec. 9 news release.

When authorities arrived, they found a 6-month-old baby with a gunshot wound to her head. The baby was taken to a hospital in critical condition, officials said.

Officials said the baby’s grandmother, Harris, intentionally shot her.

McClatchy News reached out to Harris’ attorney but did not immediately hear back.

“She shot and missed at her daughter, I believe. Then, they moved the daughter from one room to the other and then she went and shot this child and doesn’t appear to have any remorse whatsoever,” Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones told WXIX in December.

Harris shot at several family members, then took off before officials arrived at the home, the release said. She was identified by multiple witnesses as the shooter, authorities said.

Harris was eventually arrested and when asked why she shot her granddaughter, she told authorities, “That was not my grandbaby. Sorry, not sorry,” WLWT reported.

“Mental health is so much bigger than what anyone talks about,” the child’s mother said on a GoFundMe page. “My daughter was loved by the person who did this to her. ... This is a very hard situation for our family and has changed our lives forever...”

Liberty Township is a 25-mile drive north of Cincinnati.
