A “lovable and friendly” dog that has become the unofficial mascot of a Pennsylvania township could soon become yours.

Buster, a 10-year-old beagle and pit bull terrier mix, is described by the Palmer Township Police Department as being in “good shape” despite a harrowing experience he endured.

“Buster survived in his home for at least 3 weeks after the loss of his owner before police were notified,” police said in an Aug. 21 post on Facebook.

Police said the 50-pound dog was “hungry,” but was otherwise OK after being checked out by a veterinarian.

Now, Buster needs a new home.

“He loves the couch, people and other doggies, but is not too fond of kitties,” police said, calling Buster a “survivor.”

Until he is adopted, Buster is enjoying his stay at the Palmer Township police headquarters. Officers said the pup is eating well as he works on returning to his normal weight.

For information on how to adopt Buster, visit the Palmer Township Police Department website or contact Chief Wayne Smith at wsmith@palmerpd.org.

Palmer Township is about a 75-mile drive north from Philadelphia.
