A dog at a shelter is being praised for lending a helping paw to another pup in dire need, one Pennsylvania shelter says.

Animal Law Enforcement received a tip that helped save Honey, a golden shaded pit bull who was dying of starvation in the basement of a home, and rushed her to the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia.

“She was extremely anemic,” Sarah Brown, a representative for the Pennsylvania SPCA, told McClatchy News. “Her gums had no color at all, when we posted the pictures on social media people were shocked that she pulled through.”

Honey was “on the brink of death,” shelter staff said.

And that’s when Sasha stepped in.

The beautiful Akita mix with a fawn white coat and a black face mask donated blood to Honey, ultimately saving her life, according to an Aug. 11 Facebook post.

While Honey has since healed and was adopted, Sasha is still waiting for her new life to begin.

“She is such a sweet dog and deserves a second chance, as well,” Brown said.

Sasha’s likes, according to her pet profile, include:

  • Walks

  • Exploring smells

  • Belly rubs

  • Toys

  • Other dogs

  • Older kids

“Sasha is a gentle soul with a big heart, always eager to please,” her profile says.
