Persistence paid off for one dog in Colorado, who is now living her best life thanks to the help of her new family and an animal shelter.

A pup named Bailey just appeared one day on a property that a family was looking to buy and sort of casually decided that the people were now hers.

“When this happy family bought their new home, they weren’t aware it also came with a dog!” the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs said in a Aug. 15 Facebook post.

“Bailey met the family at the property before they even lived there. They left for two days and were surprised to see Bailey patiently waiting for their return.

“In the few days of knowing each other, it was as though Bailey had lived with them her whole life. She grew protective over the kiddos, became besties with their dogs, and even photobombed their family photos at their new home.”

The family had noticed that Bailey suffered from irritation in and around her eye area and when they brought her to the shelter to enlist their help to find her owners, the Humane Society was all in.

“After trying but failing to find her family, they decided to bring Bailey to us to see if we could help. It was evident that Bailey wasn’t leaving their side, so they promised that if no one came forward, they would be back for her!” the shelter said.

“We are glad they brought her to us because Bailey actually needed a lot of help.”

Turns out, Bailey’s eyelids were swollen to the point where her vision was completely compromised, which in return, made her frightened to the point where she refused to walk, the shelter said.

Thankfully, the vets at the shelter came to her aide successfully.

“Bailey went into surgery as a shelter pet with limited eyesight but came out of surgery with 20/20 vision and a family! As they promised, there was a place reserved in their home and hearts just for her,” the post said.

“Besides the medical care, Bailey didn’t need our help. She found her family all by herself! Bailey’s heart led her to the place she was meant to be all along!”
