A shelter in Pennsylvania is highlighting an affectionate cat who has had a rough road in her past and is on the hunt for a new home that will appreciate her loving nature — and tough ways.

Aurelia is a sweet black cat who keeps getting passed over at the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia, the shelter said in an Aug. 14 Facebook post. But what those people don’t know is Aurelia’s depressing, yet inspiring, backstory.

“If one cat were to define the true meaning of resilience, it would be Aurelia,” the shelter said in the post.

“In January of this year, Aurelia was rescued by our Animal Law Enforcement team from a hoarding situation. From there, her battle was seemingly uphill.

“Upon intake, Aurelia was suffering from an upper respiratory infection, severe dental disease, and painful ulcers on her tongue. One day she was found dull and cold to the touch in her kennel, but thankfully our amazing veterinary staff was there to save her.”

Since that fateful day, the cat was able to overcome her ailments.

“Seven months later, the upper respiratory infection she came in with proved to be chronic, but with proper care it is easily managed. She has some dandruff and is missing most of her teeth, but that doesn’t take anything away from her amazing personality,” the post said.

People took to the comment section to praise her amazing resilience, yet kind nature.

“Please, someone have some love in your heart and adopt (an) older cat. She is beautiful and has a lot of love and affection to offer,” one person said.

“Lovely girl. I’m sure she is full of love and I hope someone is quick to see it,” another commented.

According to her online pet profile, Aurelia is 8-years-old.

“Through everything she has gone through, Aurelia has remained the most affectionate, forgiving, and loving cat. She adores every person she meets, but sadly, potential adopters always pass her by,” the post says.
