Mama deer wandered for days with an object on foot — until WA rescuers called to help

A mama deer was wandering with something stuck on her hoof for days, Washington officials said.

Then a Port Townsend bystander called for help, according to an Aug. 7 Facebook post by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The black-tailed doe had a metal clamp on her foot “likely causing pain as she walked,” officials said.

After sedating her, wildlife conflict specialist Cole Janowski was able to remove the metal, leaving her to quickly walk again after waking up, officials said.

Janowski applied penicillin to the doe’s foot to reduce the risk of infection after the clamp removal, officials said.

Eventually, she reunited with her two babies, officials said.

Officers urge the public to “pick up after yourself” as they’ve received many similar calls, rescuers said.

Port Townsend is about a 60-mile drive northwest of Seattle.
