Body found in lake hours after search for missing swimmer ends, Utah sheriff says
The body of a missing swimmer surfaced in a Utah reservoir just hours after authorities called off a two-day search, sheriff’s officials reported.
A man in his 20s vanished while swimming in Grantsville Reservoir with another person on the night of Thursday, July 25, Tooele County Sheriff’s Office officials told KSL. The second swimmer told authorities the man was pulled under when winds picked up.
Rescue crews and dive teams searched the reservoir for the missing man through Saturday, July 26, officials told the Gephardt Daily.
The sheriff’s office ended the two-day search Saturday evening, a news release from the office said.
“Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in locating and recovering his body,” officials said in the release. Officials reopened the reservoir, which had been closed.
A swimmer reported finding the missing man’s body floating in the lake a few hours later at 7:40 p.m., sheriff’s officials told KUTV.
The body was recovered, deputies said. The man’s identity has not been released.
Grantsville Reservoir is about a 40-mile drive southwest from Salt Lake City.
