A Subway fan favorite is staging a comeback, and it’s here to stay.

Footlong cookies returned May 29 to Subway restaurants nationwide after “unprecedented demand” briefly forced the treat off menus, according to the Miami-based sandwich shop chain.

The cookies debuted in January on the restaurant’s sidekicks menu, appearing alongside the footlong Cinnabon churro and soft footlong pretzel from Auntie Anne’s, Subway said. The $5 snack is served warm and is “packed with gooey chocolate chips.”

Since then, the restaurant said it has sold more than 5 million footlong cookies.

It “has delighted millions of Americans since their first bites in January, sparking unprecedented demand over the last several months,” Paul Fabre, senior vice president of culinary and innovation at Subway, said in a news release.

The sandwich shop struggled to keep up with customers’ cookie cravings and briefly removed the snack from its app and third-party sites soon after its debut, CNN reported at the time. The churros and soft pretzels were still available to order.

The sandwich chain said it scrambled to restock the cookies and get them back in customers’ hands.
