An avid cook in North Carolina had a hard time digesting the shock of winning the jackpot in the lottery, she told officials.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” Brittaney Dominguez of Alabama told lottery officials. “It didn’t really register.”

Dominguez, who grew up in North Carolina, wanted to move back to her home state. Now thanks to a $2 million jackpot, she says she can, according to lottery officials.

“Now I can buy my house and be back home,” Dominguez told lottery officials.

Dominguez bought a $20 Mega 7’s ticket from VGO 28 on North Reilly Road in Fayetteville, according to lottery officials. She scratched the ticket at a friend’s house but rushed back to the store to double-check it when she saw the prize.

“The store clerk gave me a huge hug. I told her she was my good luck charm,” Dominguez told lottery officials.

Dominguez had the option to take out the full $2 million over a course of 20 years in annual payments, or cash out a lump sum of $1.2 million before taxes, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery. She chose the lump sum and took home $854,633 after taxes, lottery officials said.

Now Dominguez plans to invest some of her winnings and possibly launch a food truck business since she loves to cook, she told lottery officials.
