Lottery player’s heart beats ‘so fast’ when ticket reveals win — for the fourth time

A man’s luck continues after he marked his fourth big Maryland lottery win, officials said.

Kenneth Weinberg, a semi-retired Howard County man, realized he won $50,000 on a Maryland lottery scratch-off, according to a March 13 news release by lottery officials.

“I’ve been very lucky with the Lottery,” he told officials.

This marks Weinberg’s fourth win of $50,000 or more, officials said.

The man “didn’t scratch his $20 instant ticket right away” and used a scanner to see how much he had won, according to the release.

“I’ve been having an issue with my eyesight, so I rely on the scanner,” he told officials. “It’s easier to read.”

The man, who said that he’d been doing well with scratch-offs the past few weeks, knew the scanner directing him to the lottery office meant he’d won big, according to the release.

“It was like the first time. My heart started beating so fast,” he said. “It was amazing. All I could say was ‘Wow!’”

Weinberg, who lives in Columbia, bought the $50,000 Cash ticket from a Royal Farms convenience store in Elkridge, the lottery said.

The retailer will receive a $500 bonus, and Weinberg plans on using his winnings towards home remodeling projects, officials said.

Columbia is about 20 miles southwest of downtown Baltimore.
