A bathroom window left ajar at their Las Vegas home sent Monica Miner and her family rushing to the front door.

Just inside, they found 20-year-old Makayla Adams lying in a pool of blood with her 8-month-old baby on the floor beside her, Miner told KVVU.

“My daughter looked at her dad as he grabbed the baby,” Miner told the station. “Her eyes moved and a tear fell. That was the end.”

“She waited for us to get home,” Miner said. “She waited for us to come get her baby.”

Police responded to the home at 6:44 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, and found her dead from a stab wound, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

Investigators believe that Michael Ricks, 24, whom they described as her ex-boyfriend, arrived at the home and got into an argument with Adams before stabbing her, the release said.

He was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 14, in San Diego on a charge of murder in the slaying of Adams, police said.

“She had her whole life to live,” cousin Krystal Adams told KLAS. “She left behind a little girl, a family that cares about her so much. This is not fair. She didn’t deserve this. She was a beautiful person.”

Ricks will be extradited to Las Vegas, police told the station.
