Teen in golf cart with mom dies after 40-foot tumble down hill, Wisconsin sheriff says
An Illinois teen died after a golf cart crash with her mom at a Wisconsin campground, police say.
The golf cart with the 17-year-old girl from Sycamoreand her mother tumbled 40 feet down a steep hill Sunday night while the two were driving at a campground in West Point, a small town northwest of Madison, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. The golf cart stopped rolling at the shoreline of Crystal Lake, and the girl was pinned underneath, police say.
People nearby removed the golf cart before emergency medical workers arrived. She stopped breathing and lost her pulse, but regained it before going to the hospital.
On Wednesday, the teen died at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. Her name was not released.
The mother and daughter had been drinking alcohol before the crash, police say.
Under Wisconsin law, people under age 21 can drink alcohol if they’re with parents, according to the state Department of Revenue.
The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are seeking more information.
Investigators have not determined who was driving.
