Drunk driving suspect hits gravestones, gets arrested twice in a day, Illinois cops say
A drunk driver is accused of running over headstones at a cemetery and hitting another vehicle, Illinois police say.
Then he was arrested again a couple of hours later.
A witness spotted a vehicle plowing over headstones at a cemetery Friday afternoon in Mattoon, a city in central Illinois, police said. The same vehicle ran into another car a short time later and cops arrested the man on a drunken driving charge, according to a news release.
His blood-alcohol concentration was 0.18%, which is more than twice the legal limit, police said.
The man’s vehicle was towed and he was assigned a court date before he was released, police said.
Less than three hours after the first arrest, the man was taken into custody again after witnesses reported a possibly intoxicated driver on the highway, police said. He was driving a different vehicle, and the man’s blood-alcohol concentration was 0.16%, according to the news release.
Glenn A. James, 57, was charged with driving under the influence and taken to Coles County jail, police said.
