Massive fire blazes across an Indiana interstate after semi flips over, video shows

A good Samaritan helped a semitruck driver escape a massive interstate fire Thursday in Indiana, according to Indiana State Police.

The fire occurred at the Interstate 70 and Interstate 465 junction near Indianapolis, where a “semi tanker hauling fuel” overturned on an exit ramp, Sgt. John Perrine said on Twitter.

The crash caused a fuel leak and a fire that blazed across the interstate. Video posted by Perrine and the Southport Police Department show heavy, dark smoke and flames visible.

A good Samaritan pulled the semi driver out of his truck and the driver was transported to a hospital, Perrine said. The driver suffered serious burns, WLWT reported.

The driver’s life was “without question” saved by the good Samaritan, Perrine told WISH-TV.

Interstate travelers also posted videos of the fire to social media.

Just after 3 p.m. Thursday, the Indiana Department of Transportation posted photos of the wreckage and advised people to stay away from the area. The overpass of the interstate appeared to be burned from the fire.
