Hey ya’ll. Sofi here.

Here’s the thing, Wyandotte: We know our coverage hasn’t always been there for you in the past. We’ve missed stuff. We’re still learning how to do right by you.

And, we’re working really hard to get better all the time. We want to be a source you can rely on to get the news you care about most.

I’m hoping that through a new product designed specifically for you, we at The Star can better connect readers with the fascinating, essential stories — and people — living in Wyandotte County.

After six months of covering Wyandotte County for The Star, I’m so excited to announce that on Oct. 28, we will send the first edition of our newest free weekly newsletter, “In The Dotte,” to hundreds of residents’ inboxes.

I hope yours will be one of them.

Over the past few months, I’ve come across people who care so deeply about Wyandotte and its future. That energy and community pride is contagious and worth sharing with others.

A lot is going on in Wyandotte County. This upcoming election is expected to shake up the local government. Housing — both cost of living and the accessibility of homes people can actually afford — are major concerns. Developments, like data centers, neighborhoods and tourist attractions, are popping up all over. Let’s not forget everything that needs to happen ahead of the World Cup.

I’ll get into all of that in this newsletter, and the community’s moments of joy and hope that deserve our attention and dedication, too.

We anticipate the weekly dispatch — which will come straight from me — will include a blend of coverage, like in-depth accountability stories and heartwarming features, but also quick updates on events and news you can use.

And I wouldn’t be my mother’s daughter if I didn’t make a section of the newsletter solely designated to Wyandotte’s local bites.

I encourage any and all feedback, whether that be story tips, places I should check out or different ways to approach our coverage. Bring me your questions. As someone still getting to know the area, I’m sure I have them, too.

I’ll keep my inbox open at szeman@kcstar.com, and I hope you’ll let me pop into yours each week.

Sign up to get “In the Dotte” delivered to your inbox here. And if you’re excited to see what we’re working on, it’d mean a lot if you told your friends about it too.
