Former Northland JoAnn Fabrics may soon get a new tenant. See who could move in
Months after a popular craft store shut down all 800 locations nationwide, a former JoAnn Fabrics in Kansas City’s Northland may finally be getting a new tenant.
Tractor Supply Company is looking to move into the 4.5 acre space at 2201 N.W. Barry Road in Platte County after submitting a development plan to the city in May.
Earlier this week, the city’s neighborhood and development committee approved the plan, sponsored by 2nd District Councilmember Wes Rogers. It will go before the full City Council Thursday afternoon for a final vote.
The news comes around five months after JoAnn’s announced in February it would shut down all locations, including five in the Kansas City metro, and go out of business. This announcement came shortly after the company filed for bankruptcy.
According to the plan, a majority of the site will remain the same, including the parking lot, except for the addition of a fenced-in outdoor display area on the west side of the property, some fencing around the business and landscaping.
The Planning and Zoning Commission’s report also stated that deliveries to the business must occur during business hours between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. to reduce noise in the neighborhood.
Tractor Supply sells a wide variety of items, including grills, lawn mowers, ammunition, clothing, tools, gardening products, ATVs, horse saddles, kayaks and live chicks.
