Republicans running for Missouri governor launch TV ads

All four Republicans running for Missouri governor are officially on the airwaves, with each kicking off their TV ad campaigns this week.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, flush with $500,000 from the family of GOP mega donor David Humphreys, is up with his first television ad entitled “Fighting the Radical Left.”

Interspersed with images of controversial Mizzou professor Mellissa Click and President Barack Obama is Kinder declaring that Missouri values are “under attack.” He manages to hit all the conservative sweet spots, slamming Obamacare, Common Core and transgender bathrooms over the course of a few seconds.

Next up is businessman John Brunner. His ad, entitled “Can’t be Bought,” is a response to another ad launched by a group called LG PAC. As the Star noted Monday, who is paying for the ant-Brunner ads isn’t clear.

But Brunner isn’t taking the group lightly, launching an ad that declares that “insiders fear John because they’ll never own him.”

Former Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway’s ad is entitled “Midwestern Values,” which she explains are “faith in God. Family. A hard day’s work. Telling the truth.”

Former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens kicked off the TV blitz on Monday, launching an ad that eschewed the more traditional format of campaign ads to instead focus on shooting a rifle into an unknown object until it explodes.

Voters will decide between the four candidates Aug. 2.
