Tickets for books? How to get into Royals games for free and help kids

The Kansas City Royals are adding to their children’s literacy program by getting the fans involved at every home game for the rest of the 2025 season.

Starting with Friday, July 25’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, fans can exchange a new or gently used children’s book for a ticket in the View Reserved section. The new initiative is called “Bring Out The Books,” and it’s one of several the team’s Literacy League is doing to help elementary-aged students in Kansas City area schools.

A ticket window at Gate E near the right field entrance will be used for the initiative. The first 100 fans to bring a children’s book to the gate each game can receive a View Reserved ticket to the game happening on the same day.

The window to claim a ticket opens 30 minutes before gates, and will stay open until first pitch or the 100 tickets are claimed, whichever happens first.

Since it’s available for every remaining Royals regular season home game through Sept. 21, it could put 3,000 or more books into the hands of local children in the coming months, the team says, through Turn The Page KC, a local nonprofit.

“This provides our fans another way to experience Royals baseball while also supporting our partners in the Royals Literacy League and the impactful work they are already doing,” Adam Cain, the team’s senior director of revenue and brand innovation, said in a statement. “If we can bring new fans to the ballpark and do something good for the community, it’s a win-win.”

Other initiatives with the Royals Literacy League include monthly book drives, a book club at Kauffman Stadium, and players going to partnered schools to inspire children and build excitement around reading and literacy in school-aged kids.

Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. is one such classroom champion at Crossroads Charter School, and he recently sent a class of fifth graders into a frenzy when he visited them in May.
