Classes canceled at three Olathe schools after overnight storms knock down power poles

Olathe Public Schools has canceled classes at three of its schools after overnight storms knocked down utility poles leaving buildings without power.

The school district said classes were not going to be held Thursday at Heartland Early Childhood Center at 1700 W. Sheridan St., Clearwater Creek Elementary School at 930 S. Clearwater Creek Drive, and Oregon Trail Middle School at 1800 W. Dennis Ave.

The district sent out the announcement on Twitter about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday linking to its website. The district’s website said its leaders had been notified that three power poles near West Dennis Avenue were knocked down, leaving parts of the west side of Olathe without power.

Power was not expected to be restored to the school buildings until Thursday afternoon or evening.
