A man sought by police investigating the May killing of a 44-year-old Shawnee woman has been brought from Virginia to Johnson County where he is charged with murder.

Gregory P. Wright, 54, was booked in the Johnson County jail Friday. Johnson County prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder in the killing of Monica Lee, who was found dead on May 9 in her apartment in the 7500 block of Flint Street.

Wright had been arrested in Virginia Beach, Va., in June and held in jail on a fugitive warrant.

The Metro Squad had named Wright as a person of interest shortly after Lee was killed. But Wright had disappeared along with Lee’s Honda Civic. Prosecutor’s have also charged him with stealing that car.

Investigators believed Wright may have been living with Lee. Court documents also listed recent addresses for Wright in Osawatomie and Olathe.

Bond was set at $1 million.
