Kansas City police release the name of fatal stabbing victim

A 51-year-old man fatally stabbed Wednesday at 31st Street and Prospect Avenue has been identified as Wayne Anthony Bryers of Kansas City.

A taxi driver found Bryers lying on the sidewalk on the east side of Prospect Avenue, about 75 yards north of 31st Street. Bryers was taking short breathes but was not responsive. He had stab wounds in the chest and stomach. His torso was soaked with blood.

Bryers was taken to a hospital, where he died. Details of what prompted the incident were not immediately available. He was the city’s 48th homicide victim of the year.
