Murder charge is filed after Saturday night shooting in Jackson County
Prosecutors have accused a 44-year-old Oak Grove man of firing a shot Saturday night that led to a man’s death.
Robert Lee Haynes was charged Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 27-year-old Michael J. Noud.
Jackson County sheriff’s deputies found Noud gravely injured late Saturday night in the driveway outside Haynes’ home in the 8400 block of South Russell Road in an unincorporated area.
According to court documents, deputies found a .22-caliber revolver on the ground near Noud.
Haynes told deputies that Noud shot himself, but doctors later told investigators that it was highly unlikely that the wound to the back of Noud’s head was self-inflicted.
Witnesses gave conflicting accounts of what happened.
Noud’s former girlfriend was at the house and told deputies that he was accusing her of stealing some of his property when he pulled out a gun and fired two shots into the ground. She said she then turned around and heard one more shot. When she turned back around, Noud was facedown on the ground.
Investigators later talked to several other witnesses who had gone to the home with Noud that night.
A man and a teenage girl both said they saw Haynes shoot Noud.
Another witness said Haynes was putting the gun into his waistband when Noud’s former girlfriend pushed Haynes’ arm and the gun went off. That shot struck Noud.
Another man said Haynes shot at and missed Noud, who then tried to knock the gun away from Haynes. Haynes then fired again and shot Noud.
Noud’s death is the metropolitan area’s 72nd homicide of the year.
