A preliminary hearing has been set for the father and stepmother of a 7-year-old Kansas City, Kan., boy killed last year and allegedly fed to pigs.

Michael A. Jones, 45, and Heather Jones, 30, are charged in Wyandotte County District Court with first-degree murder in the death of Adrian Jones.

The boy’s remains were found last November on property rented by his father and stepmother.

In March, a mental evaluation was ordered to determine if Heather Jones is competent to stand trial. Last week, a judge found that she is competent.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 22 to determine if there is sufficient evidence to take the case to trial.

Both suspects remain in the Wyandotte County Jail.
