Police identify man found shot dead in a Kansas City residence

Police identified the man who was shot to death early Sunday morning as Merle Kitchen, 57, of Kansas City.

Officers responding to a call of a shooting at 3:30 a.m. Sunday found Kitchen inside a residence in the 300 block of South Lawndale Avenue in Kansas City’s old Northeast area.

Kitchen was declared dead at the scene. Police had no suspect information.

It was the fourth homicide in Kansas City in nine days. He is the 39th homicide of the year in Kansas City. There have been 63 homicides in the metropolitan area so far in 2016.
