Police investigate shooting death in east Kansas City

Kansas City police were looking Friday for a gunman wanted in connection with a fatal shooting on the city’s East Side.

Police responding to a report of shots fired at 8:35 a.m. found the male victim dead inside a townhome in the 4600 block of Willow Avenue, which is near Royal Meadows Golf Club.

Family members were present at the time of the shooting and have identified the gunman to police, said Sgt. Kari Thompson, a police spokeswoman.

“We have lots of great leads on who did this,” said Thompson, who did not release the victim’s name.

The gunman and victim had been involved in a disagreement before the shooting, police said.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the shooting to call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477.

This is Kansas City’s 36th homicide of the year, compared to 31 at this time last year.
