Kansas City police investigate apparent murder-suicide on Brooklyn Avenue

Kansas City police were investigating an apparent murder-suicide that took place Friday near East 53rd Street and Brooklyn Avenue.

Officers responding to a shooting call about 5:30 p.m. Friday found two people dead in “a very gruesome scene,” said Sgt. Kari Thompson, a Police Department spokeswoman.

The two people were family members, Thompson said. Police had spoken with people who witnessed the incident. No other details were immediately available.

If one of the people killed Friday was a victim of a homicide as police believed, it would be the 53rd homicide in the Kansas City area this year and the 33rd in the city.

The investigation continued.
