Kansas City man is fatally shot after answering his front door

A 30-year-old man died hours after being shot several times Monday evening when he answered his front door in east Kansas City.

Police got a call about 8:30 p.m. and went to the residence in the 5000 block of Fairway Drive, just west of Interstate 435. Officers found the victim inside with several gunshot wounds.

His girlfriend told police that the man had opened the front door and stepped on the porch to talk to someone who had called for directions to the house. She heard several gunshots. The victim came back inside and told her to dial 911.

No description of the gunman was available.

The victim died about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

His death is Kansas City’s 27th homicide of the year, compared with 25 on this date a year ago.
