Kearney man charged with dragging deputy during Clay County traffic stop

A 20-year-old Kearney man has been charged in connection with an incident Wednesday in which a Clay County sheriff’s deputy was briefly dragged by a vehicle while making a traffic stop.

Kevin L. Lindeman was arrested in Lawrence and charged Thursday with two counts of assault, or attempted assault, on a law enforcement officer.

The incident Wednesday at Claywoods Parkway and White Oak Lane in Liberty did not seriously injure the deputy but did set off a manhunt after the driver of the vehicle fled on foot. Clay County sheriff’s deputies, Liberty police and Missouri Highway Patrol troopers joined in the search for the driver.

Bond was set at $150,000.
