Authorities search for fleeing driver who dragged Clay County deputy
Clay County sheriff’s deputies, Liberty police and Missouri Highway Patrol troopers were looking Wednesday for a driver who briefly dragged a deputy after the deputy pulled him over for a traffic stop.
The deputy was not seriously injured and was helping with the search.
The incident happened about 2 p.m. at Claywoods Parkway and White Oak Lane in Liberty, said Capt. Will Akin with the sheriff’s office.
The deputy pulled over the motorist for a violation. As the motorist drove off, the deputy briefly held on to the vehicle and was dragged for several feet.
The motorist abandoned the vehicle nearby and was on foot near a subdivision. Authorities asked motorists to avoid the area during the search, which included K-9 officers.
Authorities described the motorist as a white male wearing a gray and orange sweatshirt. No other details were immediately available.
Anyone with information about the motorist should call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477.
