Woman is charged in Kansas City ax robbery
A Kansas City woman who allegedly brandished an ax while stealing items from a discount store has been charged with first-degree robbery.
Aline J. Rembert, 53, also was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with armed criminal action.
No one was injured in the incident that began about 2 p.m. Monday when employees of a Dollar General at 73rd Street and Prospect Avenue saw a woman run out of the store carrying a large plastic bag. An employee followed her, and when he asked her to show him what was in the bag, she told him no, pulled an ax out of her purse and held it over her head. She then ran off.
The woman then came across several people in the front yard of a home. When they told her to leave, she allegedly pulled out the ax and swung it in their direction. She tried to get on a city bus, but the driver refused to let her on.
She then climbed into a parked car near Prospect Avenue and Gregory Boulevard where police arrested her.
According to Jackson County court records, Rembert was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court on bad-check charges.
