Leavenworth man sentenced to life in prison for KCK murder

Wyandotte County prosecutors announced last week that Marcus G. Butler of Leavenworth was sentenced to life in prison for the January 2013 killing of 19-year-old Matthew Gibson in Kansas City, Kan.

Butler was convicted of first-degree murder in October and sentenced earlier this month for shooting Gibson in the 8200 block of Monroe Street. Butler was also sentenced to prison for 72 months each for attempted aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Wyandotte County District Judge J. Dexter Burdette imposed the sentences to run consecutively.
