A Kansas City man is charged with a felony after he allegedly fled police during a traffic stop and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase.

Michael Jamal Jordan, 48, is charged with aggravated fleeing a stop and driving while intoxicated in Clay County Circuit Court.

Around 4:51 a.m. Sunday, a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on Jordan’s vehicle, a Volvo S90, that had just fled the Claycomo Police Department, according to charging documents.

The deputy said in court documents that Jordan did not stop and instead made a right turn to merge on to 69 Highway in Liberty.

A police pursuit ensued, with the deputy’s lights and sirens activated. Jordan continued to flee north on 69 Highway, reaching speeds between 90-100 mph, according to court documents.

Throughout the pursuit, Jordan allegedly drove erratically and violated several traffic laws, failing to stop at stop signs, and passed other drivers at dangerous speeds, the deputy said.

Jordan’s vehicle eventually became disabled while he was driving on Highway H, according to court documents. It’s unclear what led the vehicle to become disabled.

At that time, Jordan complied with the deputy’s verbal commands, and he was arrested.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a cup with a suspected alcoholic beverage inside. According to court documents, Jordan admitted to deputies that he had outstanding warrants and that he had a couple drinks.

Jordan has a criminal history with multiple failures to appear, a prior resisting charge out of Grandview, and several arrests for driving while suspended.

At the time of his arrest, Jordan’s Missouri driver’s license was revoked, according to court records.

A Clay County judge set Jordan’s bond at $75,000, cash or surety. A bond reduction hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 14.
