A Lincoln, Nebraska, man is facing involuntary manslaughter following a 2024 Platte County car crash that left an infant dead.

Behzad Mahjouri-Samani is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter after prosecutors allege he caused a car crash on Interstate 29 in Platte County that left one infant dead.

According to a probable cause statement written in support of the charge against Mahjouri-Samani, the man was operating a semitractor-trailer on Oct. 23, 2024, when he “failed to stop for congested traffic.”

Mahjouri-Samani struck a maroon 2002 Toyota Corolla, which was pushed forward off the right side of the road and struck a tree, the statement said. The semi then struck a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia, which pushed forward and struck a white 2022 Ford F-350.

A crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol said a boy under the age of 1 in the Toyota Corolla was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 44-year-old woman in the car was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, and a 78-year-old woman sustained serious injuries.

Majhouri-Samani is set to appear for an initial appearance on Aug. 11.
