Youth taken into custody after shooting in KC left 1 man dead, police say
A youth was taken into custody following a fatal shooting that left one man dead Sunday morning in the Eastern 49-63 neighborhood, Kansas City police said.
Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email that officers were called to the 5700 block of Forest Avenue around 11:15 a.m. on a reported shooting and found a man suffering from gunshot trauma on the front porch of a home.
The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment and was pronounced dead by hospital staff, Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said police determined that an “interaction” inside the residence between family members escalated to gunfire. A youth under the age of 16 was taken into custody for further investigation, she said. Police were not searching any additional suspects, she said.
Anyone with information about the killing may contact detectives by calling 816-234-5043 or reach out to the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS.
