3 people arrested, charged in connection to fatal shooting in Kansas City, Kansas
Three Kansas City, Kansas, 18-year-olds face first-degree murder charges following a weekend shooting in the city’s Victory Hills neighborhood that left one man dead.
Officers with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department were called to a residence in the 3000 block of North 82nd Terrace, in the city’s Victory Hills neighborhood, around 7:15 p.m. on reports of a shooting, Nancy Chartrand, a spokesperson for the department, said in a news release Tuesday.
There, they found 64-year-old James Dodds suffering from a gunshot wound, Chartrand said. Dodds was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, where he died on Monday.
On Monday, 18-year-old Aaron Johnson, 18-year-old Mark Elliott Nash and 18-year-old Marquel McGee, all of Kansas City, Kansas, were taken into custody in Newton, Kansas, in relation to the incident, Chartrand said.
All three face first-degree murder charges, Chartrand said. The men are being held in the Harvey County Detention Center awaiting transfer to Wyandotte County.

The fatal shooting marks the 12th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, in 2026, compared to nine at this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
