Family argument leads to fatal shooting in Kansas City’s Northland
Kansas City police said an argument between two family members led to a fatal shooting in the Northland on Friday.
Police were called to the 9700 block of Locust Street around noon Friday on reports of a shooting. They found a man outside a townhouse who matched a suspect description they had been given and took him into custody, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
Inside, they found an unresponsive man who had been shot. He was declared dead at the scene.
Gonzalez said a preliminary investigation determined the shooting happened after two family members had argued, and the confrontation escalated to shots being fired. Police were not seeking anyone else, she said.
The killing is Kansas City’s 55th homicide of 2026, according to The Star’s database. At this point last year, the city had seen 69 killings.
