Hit-and-run crash kills pedestrian in north Independence neighborhood
A man died after he was hit by a vehicle while walking in an Independence neighborhood Saturday night, according to police.
Officers responded just before 11:20 p.m. to the area of North M-291 Frontage Road and East 3rd Terrace Court North after reports of a person lying in the road. North Frontage Road separates a residential neighborhood there from 291 Highway.
When they arrived, officers found a man lying in the road and began administering life-saving measures, police said.
Despite their efforts, paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Police have not yet publicly identified the man who died.
Evidence at the scene suggests the man was hit by a vehicle while walking through the area, according to Sgt. Jeff Buck, a police spokesman.
The vehicle involved in the crash had left the scene before callers reported the incident, Buck said.
No other information about the crash was immediately available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
