Two people are dead Friday after what investigators believe to be a double homicide in north Kansas City.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 500 block of Northwest Englewood Road just before 7 a.m. Friday after receiving a request for a welfare check, Sgt. Phillip DiMartino, a spokesperson for the department, said in a news release.

The individuals’ family members had not heard from them and were concerned for their well-being, DiMartino said.

At the apartment, investigators found a man and woman “suffering from unknown trauma,” DiMartino said. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide, DiMartino said. They are working to determine what led up to the incident, and whether the individuals “had a relation to one another.”

The deaths mark the 47th and 48th homicides in Kansas City in 2026, compared to 63 at this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.

Anyone with information regarding the deaths is asked to contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS, DiMartino said. A reward of up to $25,000 may be available for information submitted to the hotline.
