A bicycle rider is in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash in Kansas City’s South Indian Mound neighborhood Thursday morning.

Officers responded around 2:20 a.m. to Independence and Elmwood Avenues for a reported crash with injuries, according to a crash log.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the crash happened as a bicycle rider was stopped in the middle of Independence Ave.

An unknown vehicle driving west on Independence Ave then struck the bicycle, ejecting its rider completely off the bike, the crash log said.

According to police, the vehicle then fled the scene without stopping.
