U.S. Postal worker killed in hit-and-run crash in Kansas City neighborhood

A U.S. Postal Service worker was killed after being partially ejected during a hit-and-run crash Wednesday evening in Kansas City’s Santa Fe neighborhood, a police spokesperson said.

Officers responded to the crash about 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of East 30th Street and Benton Boulevard, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez of the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation found that the USPS’s white Dodge van was headed south on Benton Boulevard. A gray Chevrolet Equinox, headed west on 30th Street, entered the intersection from a stop sign and was struck by the USPS van, Gonzalez said.

The force of the crash partially ejected the employee and caused the van to overturn onto the driver’s side. The employee was pronounced dead at the scene, Gonzalez said.

The driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet ran away from the crash and has not been identified our found, Gonzalez said.

The crash is the city’s 26th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 24 by this time last year. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
