Police are now investigating a man’s death as a homicide after he was found inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound Monday.

Officers responded just before midnight to the 2000 block of E. 38th Street in Kansas City’s Ivanhoe Northeast neighborhood in regard to a shooting. They found a man in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle unresponsive with a gunshot wound, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, a police spokesman.

Paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The man was identified by police Wednesday as 28-year-old Terrion Wedlow.

Because of the circumstances of Wedlow’s death, and preliminary evidence at the scene, investigators initially did not believe another person was involved in the man’s death, Becchina said.

Tuesday, a medical examiner ruled the manner of death as a homicide.

“As such, our detectives have begun a homicide investigation,” Becchina said in an email.

Detectives continue to process the scene for evidence and look for witnesses to the shooting.

On Wednesday, Becchina said investigators are “making headway” on finding persons of interest in the case.

The killing is Kansas City’s 44th homicide this year, according to data maintained by The Star. At the same time last year, the city had recorded 57 homicides.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact homicide unit detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-8477.
