Police identify 21-year-old victim of KC Crossroads shooting: ‘Good spirit’
Police identified a man who had just turned 21 as the person killed a Crossroads shooting early Sunday morning.
Tayeron Ruff died after an altercation escalated to gunfire in a parking lot near the 24-hour Town Topic diner at 2021 Broadway Blvd.
Ruff turned 21 a month ago and was “looking forward to the future with hope and excitement,” according to a fundraiser for Ruff’s funeral expenses.
“His good spirit and positive energy made him a beloved part of his family and community,” the fundraiser reads.
Around 4:15 a.m. on April 26, off-duty police officers working at the Town Topic heard several rounds of gunshots, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department. One officer detained an armed individual, while the other focused on a man who was struck by gunfire in the parking lot, according a press release.
Ruff was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Gonzalez.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has not charged anyone in relation to the fatal shooting, Spokesperson Jazzlyn Johnson confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
