Man dies after shooting at convenience store near 55th and Prospect in KC
A man died after being shot Friday morning at a gas station and convenience store in Kansas City, a police spokesperson said.
Officers responded shortly before 10 a.m. to a reported shooting at the Phillips 66 near the intersection of East 55th Street and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City’s Town Fork Creek neighborhood , said Officer Alayna Gonzalez of the Kansas City Police Department.
There, officers found a vehicle parked in the parking lot with an unresponsive man who had been shot, Gonzalez said. An emergency medical crew responded and declared the man dead.
Preliminary details on what led up to the shooting were not available, Gonzalez said. No one was in custody, and officers and detectives were working to identify a possible “person of interest.” The man’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene to gather evidence and witness statements.
The killing is the city’s 36th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star. That compares to 46 homicides reported by this time last year.
