A man is facing a second-degree murder charge in Wyandotte County for his alleged role in a fatal shooting in Kansas City, Kansas’ Shawnee Heights neighborhood on Saturday.

The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office charged Martin Daniel Lopez, 18, with second-degree murder, Nancy Chartrand, a spokesperson for the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, said in a news release Tuesday.

Officers with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department were called to the 600 block of Ridgeview Avenue at 11:45 p.m. Saturday on reports of a shooting, Chartrand said.

There, they found 35-year-old Asael Linares suffering from gunshot wounds outside a residence, Chartrand said. Linares lived in the home.

Linares was transported to an area hospital, where he later died, Chartrand said.

Investigators have not released information regarding what may have led up to the shooting.

Lopez is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $250,000 bond, according to the jail’s inmate listing. No further court dates are set in his case.

The department’s major case unit is investigating the incident, Chartrand said. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the anonymous Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
