Woman found shot to death in south Kansas City backyard, no arrests made
A woman is dead following a fatal shooting early Sunday morning in south Kansas City.
Officers with the Kansas City Police Department were called to a residence in the 3800 block of East 62nd Street just after 3 a.m. on reports of a shooting, department spokesperson Sgt. Phillip DiMartino said in a news release Sunday.
There, investigators found a woman in a backyard, suffering from gunshot wounds, DiMartino said. The woman was declared dead at the scene.
As of Sunday morning, detectives are still working to discover what led up to the incident, including processing the scene and speaking with any potential witnesses, DiMartino said. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
The shooting marks Kansas City’s 28th homicide of 2026, compared to 30 at this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
